Oncode Institute is a relatively new research institute and was founded in 2017. Oncode is an independent institute dedicated to understanding cancer and translating research into practice. The best fundamental cancer researchers in the Netherlands come together in Oncode to bring their research discoveries into the clinic faster. At this moment around 900 cancer researchers are connected to Oncode, working within 1 of the 13 partner institutes based in the Netherlands. Their mission is ‘to accelerate breakthrough discoveries and speed up their translation into new diagnostics and treatments for cancer patients’.
Oncode is funded by KWF Kankerbestrijding (the Dutch Cancer Society) and three Dutch Ministry’s. With multiple different nationalities and variation of backgrounds, Oncode forms naturally diverse team of circa 30 coworkers from all over the world based in Utrecht (Centre). After a successfully evaluation of the first five years (2017-2022) of Oncode in 2023 phase 2 will start with a second funding for the next five years (2023-2027).
Position
The Head of Finance is directly responsible for the three entities of Oncode by guiding and reporting the Management board in developing the finance strategy and executing finance operations for Oncode Institute, Oncode BV and OncodePACT. The Head of Finance is directly responsible for the three entities of Oncode by guiding and reporting the Management board in developing the finance strategy and executing finance operations for Oncode Institute (€25M budget a year), OncodePACT (€40M budget a year) and Oncode BV (Investment fund). In this role it is crucial to maintain good relationships with funders and major internal and external stakeholders. The responsibilities also include the internal coordination of resource mobilization to secure the long-term sustainability of Oncode Institute. Internally, the Head of Finance will hold a seat in the Management Team (MT) and coordinate staff members both within the organization and with contractors for specific operational tasks.
Background
- Education: Academic Master, preferably with a RA or RC-degree
- Experience: 7+ years of relevant financial experience, having a background in controlling or accounting and managerial skills for autonomously steering a finance department
- Competencies:
- Strong organizational talent with an eye for precision while maintaining general overview
- Building trust both inside the organization as well as with external stakeholders
- Self-starter, capable of working autonomously with minimal supervision, but are also a team player at heart
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Knowledge of Dutch GAAP
- Highly motivated to make societal impact
